coxofemoral Displasia
Investigators of the Veterinary Medicine University of Wisconsin are trying to develop a trustworthy method to discover displasia of hip in the puppies of 8 weeks.
The investigators are using a method of the ultrasound to diagnose the pathology. A great advantage of this technique, is that it can evaluate the cartilage of the joint.
The present methods: the interpretation of x-rays of the hip by the Ortopédica Foundation for Animales (OFA), and the method of interpretation of the x-rays is not considered for 6 the smaller dogs of a12 months exact. The new technique is promising, but extensive studies are needed before being used in so young puppies of 2 months.
Commentaries:
The early diagnosis of displasia would be an extremely valuable tool. The owners could verify before buying the puppy if this one this affected by the disease. It is very sad to say to him to the owner of a puppy of 6 months of age that has displasia coxofemoral.
The criadores would know in early form as puppies are affected and thus to be able to discard them for the reproduction. In addition, the early discovery of the disease would allow a premature treatment.
