primary Hiperparatiroidismo
It is a disease that takes place due to a secretion increased of paratohormona by the gland paratiroides due to an alteration of the same one (for that reason primary).
Rare disease in the dog (Keeshonden race the prearranged one) and less even frequents in the cat, mainly affects to animals gerontes.
The main cause of the primary hiperparatiroidismo is the presence of solitary adenomas (benign tumors), although also are had I decipher primary carcinomas and hiperplasias.
The clinical signs and symptoms must to of a metabolic disorder due to the increase of the hormone that secretes the paratiroides with the result of an excess of calcium in blood (hipercalcemia). One hipercalcemia persistent produces alterations at intestinal, renal level, tracto urinary inferior, to neuromuscular and cardiac.
Sintomatología:
* Renales: poliuria/polidipsia (much thirst and tinkles much), disuria (pain when tinkling), incontinencia, hematuria (they tinkle with blood), urolitos (urinary calculations)
* Digestives: vomits and constipación
* Cardiovascular: Arrhythmias
* Neurological: depression, anorexy, tremors, weakness, muscular atrophy and difficulty in the march
In the cat in general the only observable symptoms are anorexy and depression, in the felines the cervical mass (the glandular adenoma) is felt with more frequency.
The treatment in first instance is based on a therapy to lower hipercalcemia and to revert the clinical signs (ej.deshidratación), once stabilized the patient is due to consider a therapy surgical.
The prognosis is variable depending on each case in individual, the chronic process of the disease, the severity of hipercalcemia and the sequels that have produced specially at level of the renal function. The presence of renal insufficiency at the moment of the diagnosis is a sign of bad prognosis.
