The prurito is a problem common in the dog.
It can be defined as disagreeable primary a cutaneous sensation that causes the desire of the rubbed rascado one or of the affected region.
It must distinguish between the physiological prurito, that are normal, and the pathological one, a more severe, persistent phenomenon and sometimes poorly included/understood.
The receivers for the stimulus of the prurito are specially in the dermo-epidérmica union. The impulses arrive through desmielinizadas fibers C and promote by the thorn through tracto lateral hawthorn-talámico ventro until the sensorial crust.
The proteolytic enzymes are considered the mediators most important of the prurito. These enzymes come from bacteria, fungi, mastocitos, epidérmicas cells damaged and leukocytes, and also they can be released because of hair expansions.
It is important to consider that more than a condition it can be present in he himself animal. A careful physical examination and a tedious anamnesis can arrive to reduce most of the causal ones and to make the coexistence between the dog and its owner more comfortable.

The exact recognition of the clinical signs is frequently irrealizable, because the conditions of the skin are identical in the different cases, specially if takes in carrying out the consultation. A logical way of the investigation was I decipher by Lloyd (1985) and it is next:
PRURITO- PASSAGES IN THE EXAMINATION
1. - Taking of data (clinical history)
2. - Physical Examination
3. - Estimation of different causal
4. - Tests you diagnose initials
5. - Evaluation of diagnosis differential
6. - Definitive Tests
7. - Access to the diagnosis

Important data in clinical history:
a) Age, sex and race
b) Age of beginning of the manifestations of prurito, intermitencia of the manifestations
c) Site and nature of the injuries, if they are comprobables.
d) Severity of the prurito, answer to glucocorticoids.
e) Evidence of transmission.
f) Characteristics of the feeding.
g) Presence of fleas.
It is probable that piodermias superficial and deep is the undesired consequences of the initial presentation of prurito, and is conditions difficult for diagnosing and for treating. The Staphylococcus intermedius is considered like the most important pathogen in the production of piodermias superficial, intermediate and deep.
Many of the problems associated with the prurito increase with the symptomatic treatments (specially with glucocortidoides). These specially produce a false sensation of well-being, because they reduce to the inflammation and therefore picazón, in the early stages. Nevertheless, the clinical one will not be able to know if the result is by the use of suitable antibiotics or by the action of the corticoid.
The corticoids will also cause that it takes place diminution of the sebaceous secretion and reduction of an suitable inflammatory answer, favoring that restore the secondary infection. Frequently, before the halting of the use of the corticoid, an action takes place bounces, superior to the initial situation.
The appropriate antibiotic therapy noticeably reduces the presentation of the prurito in one week, and in some cases, the complete resolution takes place in three weeks.
