Brief History of the Veterinary Andrología Argentina organized by
the Association Argentina de Historia of the Veterinary medicine in the Society of
Veterinary medicine, Buenos Aires, the 17 of November of 1999.

ANDROLOGÍA: scientific study of the constitution of masculine sex and his
diseases.
ANDRO: element coming from the Greek aner, andros, man, who appears like
area code and suffix in compound voices. LODGE: compositivo element
coming from the Greek that means treaty, study, science.
The andrología in veterinary medicine and our country is a question of fashions and of
moments, that were marked by European influences at the outset and soon
North Americans.
The expert well-known Raymond Zemjanis (University of Minnesota, EE.UU.)
it said that the infertility was practically the only reason to value
reproductive capacity of the male.
The development of the artificial insemination as well as the increase of
quality and the value of the animals has given like result the recognition
generalized of the value of the prophylactic examination before the male is put
in good condition.
The examination of bulls with respect to its sexual capacity is at the moment part
important of the preventive veterinary medicine.
In 1908 Virginio Bossi it initiates in the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary medicine of
Buenos Aires teaching in Obstetrics like branch of the Surgery and
it continues until 1920; in 1921 Luis Van de Pas position becomes of education.
1922 Luis Van de Pas, in Conferences of Obstetrics Presses Mercatali,
Avda. Acoyte n° 271, published by the Center of Students of the Faculty
of Agronomy and Veterinary medicine, it is dedicated exclusively single and to the study of
female.
In 1923 Oscar M. Newton becomes position of the chair in Buenos Aires, and
slowly they appear some subjects that affect the reproductive aptitude in
prepuciales male, injuries, papilomas of penis, interdigital callus, etc.
But single like upheavals that affect the performance of bulls of great value
economic.
1924 Visita of the Russian doctor Serge Voronoff (1866 - 1951), nationalized
French in 1897, surgeon head of the Russian hospital in France during
World War I, head of laboratory of experimental surgery in
School of France (1921), acquired fame by its theories on
human rejuvenecimiento by means of transplant of organs animals and injection
of gonádicas hormones, that soon lacked practical utility. Newton

of the Reproduction and Obstetrics " to which he directs, where to the aforesaid thing

verbal information says to have found in a field of the Prov. of Bs. Ace.

1949 Gelormini publishes ?first establishment of Trichomonas in the Republic
Argentina " but in uteri of cows.
That same year appears a bulletin of the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary medicine
of Buenos Aires in which Enrique Garci'a Bush informs on the ?relation
between the characteristics of they semen and the capacity of the reproducers ". In
the rational operation of the cattle has a fundamental importance the good one
reproductive capacity, as much of the male as of the female. The cattle dealers
they recognize this and they eliminate of his roundups and establishments the females that
during a certain period, generally two or three stations of
reproduction, has not produced young. However the faults of fertility in
the males can have an effect much more burdens on the percentage of
parición, because sterility or the diminished fertility always affects a
a variable number of females. Until it makes few years the study of

1955 Evenness, Norberto, is Professor Temporary Adjunto in the UBA.
1957 the group Aquerreta, Parraud, Tewes and Galán publishes routine Revisación
of genital affections and Genital Health in 5.903 bulls of roundup. By
first time appears writing in an article (Rev. Agron and Vet. Nº 74),
detail of the clinical revisación of routine. They say that this one must:
1. - To be fast and relatively easy to put in practice;
2. - To allow to determine the existence in the roundup of diminished bulls
, sexually infertile (of being this possible one), infected of Tuberculosis and
of Brucelosis or that presents/displays any tare.
They explain in detail some testicular pathologies: hipoplasia, sclerosis
senile, testicular atrophy, chronic orquitis, and chronic epididimitis.
In 1958 he himself group publishes practical Application of the electroeyaculación
in the clinic of the bovine male (Rev. Agron and Vet. [Bs.As.] 8, 84:7 - 13;
1958)
1960 Grisolía and Pintos Treatment of the Trichomoniasis in the bull by
Abelein method. They explain how to obtain the samples by prepucial washing with
250 mililiter of sun. fis. to 40 º C. Observation to the microscope with portaobjetos
warmed up. Examination pos treatment 4 times with one week between test and
test.
1961 Cedar, Cisale ET to. they publish: Brucelosis, some aspects of
bovine brucelosis (Rev. Inv. You win. Nº 10). In 1955 it had already been published
work on investigation of brucelosis in slaughter houses by means of antigens in
total blood.
1962 -1963 Ostrowski Jorge E.B. gives lectures on the technique
semiológica that practices to carry out the diagnosis of fertility in bulls
and in sheep, presenting/displaying a series of slides of the normal anatomy.
It also explains the use of a electroeyaculador devised by go
Rensburg and of Vos in Sud Africa (1957). It classifies the bulls according to
results in six categories: Sterile, nonapt bulls, diminished, apt
but undesirable like the apt brucelosos and tuberculosos and. It presents/displays
data of 543 bulls (1961 - 1962) of which only 40.51% is apt,
results go of a rate of parición of 50% (65% in cows and 33% in
vaquillonas) to a 82% of preñez.
1962. Villalba Palaces very presents/displays a detailed work on
electroeyaculación in veterinary clinic (Gac.Vet. T24 Nº 145). Using
they semen fresh obtains 45.5% of preñez to prime service in cows. Work

1962 Cisale, Ostrowski. Brucelosis in the bull, Correlation between
clinical diagnosis, espermo and seroaglutinación. Rev. de Inv. Cattle dealers,
Nº 14.
1964 Toso and Bottino present/display in Trento, in the Congress the International of
Reproduction and Artificial Insemination: Electroeyaculador with novel
bipolar electrode.
1964 Aparece in our means of the Thousand Evenness and the translation book,
Reproductive sterility and artificial insemination in the bovine cattle,
Kraft editorial. In its Chapter VII: Reproductive clinical examination of the bull,
with extreme detail, the authors describe to passage by step the order of the examination
general and individual of external and internal organs, the harvesting of
samples and of semen, as well as the penis anesthesias.
1965 Ostrowski, J.E.B is named Professor Asociado by aid in charge of
the Chair of Obstetrics and Pathology of the Reproduction in the Faculty of
Agronomy and Veterinary medicine of the University of Buenos Aires. It is begun with
the education of predegree in bovine andrología.
1966 Marzullo and Ponsati in its publication the red parición in
bovine operations practically do not make reference to the bulls.
1966 Roberts R; M. Stoessel, Villar, INTA Balcarce, Investigation of
Vibriosis and of the Trichomoniasis in the Bovine Cattle of the Republic
Argentina (Communication. INTA, Bowl. Complexion. Nº 52).
1966 Stoessel and Villar, in the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary medicine, in
November, they give a practical theoretical conference on Vibriosis and
Trichomoniasias; in culture means they demonstrate the observation of
trichomonas on dark field.
1967 Jakobsen, Villar and Casaro, Project FAO-INTA Study of
diseases of the nutrition and deficiencies of the cattle. (INTA, Bulletin 57)
Potential fertility of the bulls. 142 bulls with observation reviewed themselves and
measurement of organs and analyses of semen. Brucelosis and Leptospirosis.
They obtain a total rejection of 12.7%. A 5% of bulls were used in general in
the examined roundups.
1966 Bottino, Dozo and Reynoso Castro presents/displays a new new equipment and
operating technique applied to the electroeyaculación.
1966 Arrostegui, Fernando, in an extensive work on Trichomoniasis
venereal in the bovine, makes history of the disease in our country,
etiología, patogenia, pathology, symptoms and effects on the fertility.
He mentions that the Dr Narvaez, Director of the Lazareto Cuarentenario de Lima,
Peru, comments that a great number of the Argentine bulls that concern themselves goes
infected and it is destined to task. Arrostegui advises like tool

1967 The one that speaks must dispatch troops of 54 Holando bulls from
north of Santa Fe towards Peru. It is requested to him that it takes prepuciales samples with
hisopos of gauze, put them in a glass bottle and it sends them to the Laboratory
Power station of SELSA. To the two weeks: negative result for the two
diseases. The samples traveled in a package, in train, towards Bs.As.,
without refrigeration.
1968 Ostrowski and Sackmann Some lessons of eight years of exercise
practitioner of hygiene of the reproduction in roundups of races of meat (Gac.Vet.
Vol 32, Nº 240). The examination of fertility in bulls gave a 41.8% of bulls
apt, an apt but brucelosos 21.6% of, a 2.1% of apt but
tuberculosos.
1971 Marrodan and Lefebvre Evaluation of the reproductive efficiency of the bull.

1972 Roldán, Villar, Briano, Villaba Palaces, Lamb, Romero, Witt and Toso
in the PRACIVE they produce a basic document on Trichomoniasis and Vibriosis
Bovine. In that same congress a panel was also made on Brucelosis.

in the evaluation of aglutinantes titles since diverse institutions

1973 Ostrowski, Sackmann and Nuñez, ?fast Diagnosis of piospermia?.
1973 Tests with a scraper made by Guido Paccaroni, extraction of
samples in bulls of a field of Vicente You will marry, culture in the middle

1974 Villalba Palaces, results obtained after the treatment of bulls
affected of trichomoniasis. Use of Emtryl (Dimetridazole), 1
capsule each 200 kg of weight, 5 days. Plus the treatment against Vibrio,
Estreptomicina. Lavaje and subcutaneous injection.
1974 Ostrowski, Baigún, Restrains, Rodriguez Dubra and Rutter. Obtaining of
